West Ham United captain Mark Noble has admitted that his side could have been beaten 5 or 6-0 against Southampton at the weekend.

It is all doom and gloom around the London Stadium currently, with another defeat against the Saints on Sunday meaning Slaven Bilic’s men have been beaten in five of their first six games this season.

After Charlie Austin had opened the scoring for the visitors, West Ham looked to chase the game to some degree and this meant that things became stretched.

Noble has confessed that the Hammers could have conceded more than the three goals they did and that the display was not good enough.

“I don’t know why [we are struggling],” the midfielder told Essex Live.

“I have been playing in this league for so many years, but we don’t seem like we can get a goal that means something.

“There was nothing really in the game early on, and then they score the first goal and in the second half we are chasing it and trying to get back into the game, but it could have easily been five or six.”

West Ham face Middlesbrough next weekend at home in what must be looked at as an ideal match for Bilic’s charges to get three points on the board and back on track.

Noble is the Hammers’ leader and continues to fight for everything despite his side not having the rub of the green.
