Diangana set for January return

West Ham loanee Grady Diangana will return to action by the end of January at the very latest, according to Claret & Hugh

The youngster is currently out on loan at West Brom in the Championship, but picked up a suspected hamstring injury during the 3-2 win over Birmingham City on Saturday lunchtime.

But the report suggests that the complaint may not be as bad as first feared, with a comeback pencilled in for some time next month.

This is relevant to the Hammers not only because Diangana is their player, but also because they have the option to recall him during the first half of January. Thus far, Manuel Pellegrini has made it fairly clear that he is unlikely to do that, and you have to wonder whether his decision on the matter would be affected any by Diangana picking up an injury. As it stands, however, it should have no real consequence, and that means that the choice will still rest heavily on Pellegrini alone. Honestly, you could argue it either way. On the one hand, the youngster is in fine form, and has averaged a Whoscored rating of 7.22 so far this season. On the other, he is only playing that well because he is actually able to get out onto the pitch, and you would have to fear that that may not happen if he were to return to his parent club too soon. Either way, it’s just good that he isn’t facing a lengthy absence.
