Robbie Savage has stated that West Ham United attacking pair Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini cannot play in the same team and Slaven Bilic should select one or the other.
The Hammers have had a disastrous start to the new campaign, with the side losing five of their first six Premier League games of the season.
Although the team’s defence is clearly the issue currently, the failure to score against Southampton in the 3-0 home defeat on Sunday was the first time this season that this has happened.
Payet and Lanzini had little impact in dictating the game and Savage has stated that the pair are both wonderful players but that perhaps only one should be in the starting line-up.
“Payet is magnificent but doesn’t do much defensively, he (Bilic) brought off Lanzini at half-time,” the Welshman said on Match of the Day 2.
“I don’t think you can play with two or three of those attacking players when they are losing games.
“He’s got to think, do I leave Payet, he won’t, or Lanzini out. I don’t think you can carry both of them.”
Payet and Lanzini worked together last season to make West Ham one of the Premier League’s most dangerous attacking teams, but Bilic may well be tempted to change things after the poor start to the new campaign.
