West Ham should make a move to sign Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to Paul Robinson.

Football Insider revealed recently that the Hammers’ board are big fans of the 6’2″ colossus, and Robinson is of the opinion that he would be a great addition.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “If that’s the type of player they’re looking at, he fits the bill.

“You know what you’re going to get from Declan Rice and Mark Noble, but there isn’t a lot of cover for them.

“If you take either of them out, it’s like removing the heart and soul of the team as they put them on the front foot.

“Wanyama is a similar type of player as he has a great engine so would fit the bill.”

Bringing in Wanyama could be a masterstroke. The Kenyan is seriously struggling for game time at Spurs, but there is no doubt that he still has a lot of talent to offer the right side. The last time that he had a sustained run in the team for Tottenham, back in 2016/17, when he played 35 times in the Premier League, he averaged a Whoscored rating of 7.21. That score is better than any West Ham midfielder has produced this season. Admittedly, time has elapsed, but he is still only 28, and with the right amount of patience and faith, he could be a real asset. The Hammers are desperately short in the centre of the park, with their options beyond Declan Rice and Mark Noble looking either ineffective or razor thin, and so bringing in reinforcements in January feels like a great idea. Wanyama may have fallen under the radar a little in recent times, but this could be his shot a redemption.
