West Ham United have launched an investigation into the fee that they paid Olympiakos for left-back Arthur Masuaku, with potential that the Hammers have granted money to a person not entitled to a payment, according to The Daily Mail.

The Hammers were desperate to land another full-back to cover for the injured Aaron Cresswell and swooped to land the French defender from the Greek giants for a fee in the region of £6 million.

However, the report suggests that a representative of the new West Ham player was granted close to £1 million but was not due payment as he or she was not on the official transfer document.

Masuaku has been a rare bright spark for Slaven Bilic’s men this season, deputising for the injured Cresswell and putting in some positive performances for the east London side.

However, it may well be that a scandal over Olympiakos’ finances could have seen West Ham overpay for the gifted wideman and a representative from the club has been put onto the case to investigate the matter further.
