West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has stated that his side are missing confidence and that this needs to be turned around for the club to get back on track.

The Hammers have had a nightmare start to the Premier League season, recording just three points from their first six games.

A comprehensive 3-0 defeat to Southampton at home on Sunday compounded matters and the east London outfit are now in the lower reaches of the table.

Bilic has stated that the major thing that his side are lacking currently is the confidence to play at their best, with hard work to be put in to restore the team to the one that excelled last season.

“We are not the first or the last team who has been in this situation in the Premier League and most of it is about confidence, but the Club has the same players and the same manager who did good things last year,” he told the club’s official website.

“Eighty per cent of the team is the same, and of course we can talk about confidence and urge them to be confident, but you need one or two good results to get that confidence and that’s not happening at the moment.

“We are working hard in training, analysing and talking and it’s good until the game comes and someone punches us in the face, then we have a problem.”

West Ham host newly promoted Middlesbrough in a must-win home clash next weekend, in what is an ideal opportunity for Bilic’s men to record three points.

The Hammers have moved to the London Stadium but their new home has not provided the boost on the pitch that the club intended.
