Pundit Nigel Winterburn has stated that rumblings in the press that West Ham United could be tempted to part-company with under-fire manager Slaven Bilic are ludicrous.

The Hammers supporters had high hopes for the 2016-17 season after an industrious showing in the Croatian’s first season in charge at the East London club.

However, elimination from the Europa League at the group stage has been followed by West Ham losing four of their first five Premier League games this term.

The recent defeats to Watford and West Brom have been specifically hard to take for the fans, with pressure growing on the club and its manager.

Despite the start to the campaign obviously being far from ideal, Winterburn has suggested that any claims that Bilic could be relieved of his duties should be taken with a pinch of salt and that West Ham should have expected a transition period following their stadium move.

“I’m already hearing reports that so many managers are already under pressure this season already,” the former Arsenal left-back told Sky Sports News.

“It’s absolutely ludicrous.

“West Ham have gone to a new stadium. We said it would be very difficult for them to start with.

“The one worrying thing is you would have thought they would have picked up a fair number of points against the teams that they have played. They’ve got some big games to come there.”
