West Ham United have entered the race to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Moritz Leitner and will battle Italian giants Lazio for his signature according to Goal.
The 23-year-old is widely being tipped to leave the Bundesliga powerhouses this summer, with the club’s sporting director admitting that negotiations over the midfielder’s exit were underway.
Leitner joined Dortmund from 1860 Munich back in 2011 and was being tipped to star in a young team full of talent.
However, competition for places at Signal Iduna Park has limited the midfielder to only 46 Bundesliga appearances over the course of the last five years.
Loan stints at Augsburg and Stuttgart have followed, while Leitner has been a constant feature in the Germany under-21 side over recent years.
The report suggests that a deal to take the gifted technician to the Stadio Olimpico was close to being completed, but West Ham have intervened to give the German playmaker another option this summer.
