West Ham United are weighing up a shock move for former Stoke City attacker Peter Odemwingie according to the print edition of The Sun, reported online by Football Insider 247.

The Hammers are desperate for attacking recruits this summer and have seen their attempts to land a number of high-profile number nines fail.

However, a deal to bring Swansea City’s versatile attacker Andre Ayew to east London for £20 million looks likely to be wrapped up on Monday.

The latest report suggests that Odemwingie, who left Stoke after his contract expired earlier this summer, will be offer a trial with Slaven Bilic’s men.

The Nigerian attacker has become something of a forgotten man in recent years, with the 35-year-old now approaching the culmination of his career.

It remains to be seen just what use Odemwingie would have for West Ham and surely the African attacker would only be a squad player if he was offered a deal.
