West Ham United have not given up hope of signing Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen and are in the hunt to bring him to the London Stadium this summer according to Tutto Mercato Web.
The former Arsenal centre-half has struggled with injuries since swapping the English club for Camp Nou, while he is also not an automatic selection for the Spanish champions when available.
As such, Vermaelen has been repeatedly linked with a return to the Premier League and West Ham are said to be one of the teams most eager to sign him.
The report states that Roma are ready to make an approach for the Belgium international but that Slaven Bilic’s men are willing to match the Italian club in trying to lure the star to east London.
Any move for Vermaelen would surely be conditional on a thorough medical, as the defender has been habitually injured throughout his career.
