West Ham United are believed to be considering a loan move for former Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan, according to Goal.

The Hammers have confirmed that exciting Argentine forward Jonathan Calleri is set to move to east London on loan once the Olympics conclude, but the club have also failed in the pursuit of a number of high-profile number nines this summer.

The latest report will not instil much confidence in the London Stadium faithful, with Gyan something of a journeyman and the African has a questionable reputation after the way he departed Sunderland.

Now on the books of Chinese side Shanghai Shenua, the Ghana international is widely expected to be loaned back to a European club before the transfer window closes.

The 30-year-old showed promise at times during his tenure on Wearside but left for Al Ain in a move motivated by money – it remains to be seen what role he would play at West Ham or if he is an upgrade on the club’s current attacking options.
