West Ham United and Watford are set to go toe-to-toe in an effort to sign Newcastle United right-back Daryl Janmaat, according to The Daily Mail.

The Hammers have had issues at full-back and have been deploying winger Michail Antonio out of position as a less-than ideal option.

Slaven Bilic appears to have relented with this tactic after opting to start Sam Byram in the role against Bournemouth, with Anotnio returned to his usual more-offensive role.

Janmaat has plenty of Premier League and international experience and is said to be rated around £10 million.

With Rafa Benitez signing compatriot Jesus Gamez earlier this summer to fulfil the right-back role at St James’ Park, it is believed that the Netherlands international is available.

Newcastle were relegated to The Championship last term and as such surely the forward-thinking defender would be interested in a return to English football’s top flight.
