Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is keen to land Palermo left-back Achraf Lazaar according to Tutto Mercato Web, who has been linked with West Ham this summer.

The Morocco international has impressed at the modest Sicilian club over the last 12 months and as such has been touted with a move to a bigger club.

The Hammers have been linked with an approach for Lazaar in recent times, but it remains to be seen if Slaven Bilic’s men are still interested in the Serie A defender after signing Arthur Masuaku from Olympiakos as cover for the injured Aaron Cresswell.

Newcastle were relegated last term and are in a scrap to win promotion back to the Premier League, with extensive expenditure by the Tyneside club in the process.

West Ham could certainly use a versatile player like Lazaar, who can play at full-back or on the wing, but as yet no official news over the Palermo player’s future has been revealed.
