A Besiktas official has confirmed that West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has told him that the London club are not interested in signing striker Mario Gomez.

The Germany international has been linked with a switch to the London Stadium over recent weeks, as the Clarets look to recruit an experienced and proven goalscorer.

However, it is unlikely to be Gomez joining the Hammers this summer, with Besiktas spokesman Metin Albayrak stating that West Ham are not interested in the Fiorentina poacher.

Gomez netted an exceptional 26 goals for the Super Lig champions while on loan last season but has revealed that he does not want to return to Turkey due to an unstable political situation in the country.

Besiktas still hold out hope of convincing the German striker to change his mind and will have one less opponent to battle as West Ham do not want the attacker.

“Our fans are feel hopeful about Mario Gomez returning,” Albayrak told Turkish outlet Dogan News Agency, translated into English by Goal.

“We’re monitoring his situation closely but we know that he is in serious talks with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund. Obviously he is difficult for us.

“I spoke with Slaven Bilic on the phone this morning. He said that they’re not interested with Mario Gomez.”

West Ham have confirmed the signing of Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri.
