West Ham United are weighing up an approach for Inter Milan left-back Davide Santon according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Hammers are in the market for a new full-back after a serious cruciate ligament injury to Aaron Cresswell in pre-season.

The report suggests that West Ham would have to pay €550,000 (£460,000) to the Italian giants to facilitate a 12-month loan deal to bring Santon back to England.

Should Slaven Bilic’s men want to make the former Newcastle defender’s deal in east London permanent, a €5.9m (£4.9m) fee would apply.

Santon spent four seasons on the Tyneside outfit’s books before returning to his homeland but has struggled for regular first-team football at the Milan-based club.

The Italy international was an excellent attacking weapon from deep when we was at his best at Newcastle and the fact that he has played in the Premier League before, and the reasonable loan fee, may well lead West Ham to proceeding with the deal.
