West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has admitted that it would good to get amongst the goals in the 3-0 pre-season win over Karlsruher SC at the weekend.

There has been a lot of talk that Slaven Bilic is intent on bringing in a new high-profile striker to lead the line for the Hammers this season and spearhead the club’s move to the Olympic Stadium.

This has led to talk that Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho could leave the London club, with Carroll’s future and role in the team for 2016-17 being open to interpretation based on who arrives.

Despite the speculation, the former Newcastle United and Liverpool centre forward reminded the fans of his aerial abilities by scoring in the routine victory over the German opponents on Saturday.

Carroll has stated that he is feeling positive about the new campaign ahead and that getting a win in pre-season is good for the collective morale.

“It was good to get an hour in on Saturday, and good to get a goal and our first win of pre-season as well,” he told the club’s website.

“The results don’t matter at this time of year but it’s obviously still nice to win. All the work the lads have been putting in over the last couple of weeks has been great.

“We created plenty on Saturday. We got enough crosses in and enough chances and I think the team going forward, and in defence too, is very good.

“For my goal, Sofiane [Feghouli] passed it wide to Enner [Valencia]. He knows where I’m going to stand by now, and he just dinked it to the back post for me to get my head on it.”
