West Ham United are the favourites to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke according to The Croydon Advertiser, with the Hammers set to battle Crystal Palace for the Belgian powerhouse.
The former Aston Villa attacker had an underwhelming first season at Anfield in 2015-16, with Jurgen Klopp’s arrival at the Merseyside club throwing the forward’s future into doubt.
West Ham are looking for a predatory number nine this summer and have already failed in attempts to land Alexandre Lacazette and Michy Batshuayi.
Benteke could well be exciting option for Slaven Bilic’s men, given that he was regarded as one of the most feared strikers in the division back in his Villa days.
Palace are also looking for a number nine given their respective lack of potency in the final third in 2015-16, with a bidding war seemingly set to break out.
The latest report suggests that West Ham are leading the chase for Benteke and the Belgium international could well be leading the Hammers’ line at the Olympic Stadium next season.
