West Ham and Southampton are ready to pounce on Newcastle attacker Andros Townsend this summer, with The Telegraph stating that the pair want the winger if the Tyneside outfit are relegated.

The England international moved to St James’ Park from Tottenham in a bumper January deal, but is said to have a clause in his contract allowing him to leave Rafa Benitez’s men for £8 million if the Geordies drop to The Championship.

Townsend has provided the North East outfit a ray of hope in their struggles to stay in the Premier League and has been a driving force behind more positive results in recent weeks.

Just how Townsend’s arrival at West Ham would sit with the Hammers fans remains to be seen given that he is a graduate of the Tottenham youth academy.

The talented winger boasts pace and power, with it being suggested that his arrival would cover for the impending departure of Victor Moses, who is set to return to parent club Chelsea in the summer.
