West Ham United have announced on their official website that teenage midfielder Anthony Scully has signed a long-term professional contract with the club.

The Hammers are busy in the transfer market but are also putting a focus on youth, with a wealth of new prodigious youngsters arriving at the London club in recent times.

Scully is set to turn professional after impressing in the Hammers youth ranks and will continue his evolution as a player under Slaven Bilic’s watchful eye.

The creative midfielder has showed his calibre in the West Ham youth ranks and now looks set to try and secure a consistent place in the Hammers’ successful under-21 outfit.

Scully, who is a Republic of Ireland under-17’s international, has admitted that signing a professional deal with the London side is a dream come true.

“It’s a great feeling. It’s a feeling every young boy dreams of, to be a professional footballer,” he said.

“Now that I’ve earned my first one, the hard work continues to try and earn more with West Ham.

“It’s a very proud moment for myself and my family. I’ve put a lot of hard work into getting to where I am today and my family have supported me from the beginning.

“This season was a mixture of highs and lows, it didn’t start off the best as I unfortunately picked up an injury in pre-season that kept me out until January. I managed to get back playing in the U18s, scoring some goals and also made a few appearances for the U21s.”

Scully is some way of making his debut for the senior time but may well be afforded a chance to feature in pre-season.
