Dimitri Payet has updated the fans with a determined message on social media, claiming that he will work ‘even harder’ as he looks to recover from an injury sustained against Everton on Saturday.

The French playmaker has undoubtedly been West Ham’s star of the season so far and his three months on the sidelines is a massive blow for both the player and Slaven Bilic.

The 28-year-old rounded off his message by writing, ‘See you soon Hammers’. The post was very light-hearted in tone but the video that accompanied it suggests otherwise.

Usually, a player would post a picture showing them receiving treatment on the road to recovery after an injury. Rather interestingly, Payet uploaded a video of James McCarthy’s horrific challenge to accompany his message to the fans.

Whatever way you look at it, the tackle is certainly a poor one. Payet looks to push on with the ball before McCarthy bulldozes in with a fierce tackle from behind. It is not a grounded sliding tackle but more of a lunge (his two legs are a couple of feet off the ground upon impact). The worst part is the fact that the midfielder then locks Payet’s feet via a scissor motion, something that almost always ends in injury.

It’s clear that the tackle was malicious and the fact that Payet has shared it suggests that he feels the same.
