In an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, Pedro Obiang has been glowingly speaking about West Ham’s excellent start to the season so far.

The Hammers have been in superb form in recent weeks as they sit third in the Premier League, beating the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to get there.

When questioned on why the team are performing so well, Obiang outlined a number of factors involving team spirit and the manager that has been vital to the team’s success so far:

“The good atmosphere that has been created in the changing room [is key to the performances so far]. The great season we are currently doing has caused expectations to soar and comparisons to the big teams, but we need to carry on working.”

The Spanish midfielder then praised the manager:

“He does everything very calmly and barely shouts. He is slowly implementing his footballing idea. For now, he has adapted to team’s demands, but I think he wants to play a more flamboyant type of football.

“Bilic has a lot of personality and wants us to be ourselves, those who control the ball. The results are starting to show. In each game, we do more and more.”

Hammers fans will be pleased to hear that Bilic wants to improve the footballing style even more. The team have played some great stuff so far this season but there is always room to improve as the home losses to Bournemouth and Leicester suggest.

From what Obiang is saying, there is a really good feeling around the club at the moment and Bilic is the right man to keep the team grounded as they continue to pick up excellent results.

The biggest difference in the team comes about because of what Slav did in the summer. Refusing to buy into spending the bulk of his kitty on an overpriced striker, he ignored the strident clamour and built an attacking midfield that was full of players who could find the net and the fact we have gone from a team starved of goals to being the second highest scorers in the league shows just how right he was.
