Former West Ham midfielder Alessandro Diamanti has claimed that current club Watford are ‘more modern’ than West Ham, according to Gazetta dello Sport.

The Italian was a bit of a cult hero at West Ham United, playing for the club from 2009-10. He showed glimpses of his undoubted ability in his time at the Hammers but his career really started to take off when he left East London.

Now playing under Quique Flores at Watford, Diamanti claims that the regime at Vicarage Road is more sophisticated than the one he experienced at West Ham.

“I found a football club that is more modern. At West Ham everyone ate what they wanted… at Watford you follow a specific diet. After the pitch work we have sessions of yoga and pilates. There is a lot of attention for the video part. We have an English teacher available. A new world.”

Although Diamanti’s words should not be taken as gospel by any means, it is interesting that he felt a need to comment on the difference between the two clubs. The Irons did not perform particularly well in 2009-10 and it makes you wonder if more could have been done behind the scenes.

West Ham play Watford on the 31st October so it’ll be interesting to see whether Diamanti’s extra yoga sessions pay off or not.

Not sure what the point of the article is if I’m honest. For how can you compare how two football clubs are/have been run under different regimes years apart?

If diamanté is extolling the virtues of a more Italian way in preparing a football team then fair enough.
But if he simply has an axe to grind or is tiring to compare clubs years apart, then like I have already stated what’s the point?
