Johnny HeitingaWest Ham have completed the signing of Everton defender John Heitinga, according to the Daily Mail.

The 30-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is reportedly expected to complete a move as soon as the transfer window opens.

The Netherlands international can operate at right-back, centre-back and also as a defensive midfielder and with West Ham’s current injury problems, the addition of Heitinga could be very handy.

He seems to be a good passer of the ball. Good balance, uses both feet, reads the game well, likes to play it out on the deck. … Definitely need a 4th centre back and he’ll go straight into the side in Jan. With all defenders fit not sure if he’ll keep his place, but for now it’s a good solution for all parties. He’s pushing for a world cup place.

Not sure however if he’s the perfect “last ditch”, “panic stations” defender. But WH really need to keep possession better and defend further up the field.

So westham sign another player who can’t get a first team start for he’s current club coming to the end of his playing days and is obviously costing no money, get rid of big Sam and get a manager who want’s to play football it can be done on a limited budget look at Southampton and Swansea.

As an Everton season ticket holder I am glad he has gone
Most of his passes go astray, can’t head, slow is an understatement.
He has the pace of a snail
Be prepared to give away lots of fouls just outside the box as he tackles recklessly
I am so glad he is gone

I am also a blue and agree to a certain extent. He easily gets outmuscled and outpaced but is a good footballer more suited to Italy or Spain. He even got the run around from Kone, which is saying something.
He managed to get player of the year for us a couple of years ago and has behaved well, I wish him all the best

Blimey, thanks Paul…that’s just what we wanted to hear mate !!!! Should fit in well then……..

what really confuses me is that Big Sam’s first signing was a cb, sure we have Collins, Tomkins and Reid injured but with reid coming back shortly and george mcartneys ability to play cb, I would prefer for Big Sam to get a stricker firsf

gotta agree mate yes we are short on numbers at the back but that’s down to squad imbalances to many midfielders and only 3 centrehalves but we need goals so bring in 2 strikers and get rid of collision diarra obrian demel especially and McCartney to free up wages

Interesting comments from Blues fans. I’ve always liked him. Big and strong, no nonsense, and dangerous from set pieces when attacking. He and Carroll would be a nightmare for the opposition at corners. My concern is that he hasn’t kicked a ball for Everton all season

  • Damian says:

Johnny had an absolute fantastic season for us a couple of years ago but never recaptured his form. Hope he does well for the hammers and keeps you up.

  • Dunlopilo says:

I think he is better than Collins, but not my favourite. He never really shone for Atletico Madrid, and hasn’t played much football in the last year. I also remember he tends to come in late or borderline reckless on may tackles, so that can become a liability. BUT, he is motivated to do it right just to be in the dutch squad that goes to Brazil… Wait and see thus…

  • Dunlopilo says:

Although Petric also had the motivation to be on the Croatian side, and we all know what that turned out to be…

  • Pete says:

we just need this type of player & more, our squad is not good enough at present.

  • Paul says:

I do like the Hammers my favourite London club even though Big Sam is not a manager who plays in the way West Ham normally do, heitinga has not kicked a ball in the league all season and a 20 year old kid is put on ahead of him when Martinez decides to shut up shop in the dieing minutes, a change if club may bring the best out of him as he had one good season a few years ago, but don’t expect him to score goals at set pieces he can’t head a ball and he struggles with most big centre forwards, and on top of that he earns 65k a week

  • Cheryl says:

We do need 4 centre backs all top clubs have 4 decent centre backs. Heitinga would probably be 3rd choice but still good cover. More importantly Defoe alongside Carroll no unknown foreigner. Defoe is up and running and knows the place.

  • Sinky says:

McCartney as a makeshift CB all season long… What the fuck are you on.
