West Ham fans have a proud tradition of watching their homegrown talents make it into the first team and they have once again enjoyed a season of a breakthrough star make a name for himself.

That of course is Declan Rice and he has quickly established himself as one of the first names on the team sheet in the middle of the park.

One man who will have been somewhat frustrated by Rice’s rise to glory will be Josh Cullen – the 22-year-old finding himself at the wrong place, namely Charlton Athletic, at the wrong time. After all, it could have been him being called up to the first team in the midst of an injury crisis.

A decent loan spell in League One is hardly a sign that he is ready for the top flight and at 22, he is no longer the prospective talent he once was – instead he is of first team age and should have the talent to reflect that.

If Cullen was good enough, then the club would not be scouting out new blood to bring to east London – unfortunately for the homegrown ace, that is not the case.

The Sun report that the Irons are chasing Noah Chilvers from Colchester, the 18-year-old yet to sign a professional deal at the League Two side – where he made his first team debut in early March.

Up for a bargain without a contract, his arrival as a promising youngster is only going to see Cullen viewed as an unnecessary hurdle to their new starlet’s progression and quite frankly it is clear the current Hammers man has no future at the club.

If it did not look bleak before, it sure does now.
