West Ham United midfielder Felipe Anderson is likely to receive a pay rise in order to keep him at the club, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football news outlet reports that the Hammers are ready to table an improved contract to the £85,000-a-week [Spotrac] star in order to convince him to stay in East London for one more year.

The report adds that co-chairman David Sullivan wants to keep the summer signing at the club, claiming that he is willing to give him a pay rise in order to put off any admirers – one of which includes a team from the Premier League top-six.

OPINION

It is not often that Anderson is linked with a move away from the club – after all, he only signed for them in club record fee last summer. However, despie the fact that he has been inconsistent this season, it is not a surprise that a side from the top-six are interested in his services. The 25-year-old has shown glimpses of what he is capable of, and this is perhaps what has alerted many to his talent. West Ham need to do something to convince him to stay – after all, if a big club does come in, there is no doubt that he would be tempted – and offering him an improved contract is the only way to go about it. Giving him a pay rise could put him amongst the biggest earners at the London Stadium, but it could also fend off any interest other parties have in him. The fans no doubt want him to stay and be a part of what Manuel Pellegrini is building at the club – so fingers crossed the new contract offer works.
