Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge is keen to return to London and West Ham are being touted as a possible destination for him, according to Your Local Guardian.

The regional newspaper claim that the word of the grapevine is the Reds attacker is looking for another spell in England’s capital after previously playing for Chelsea and that the Hammers could be where he ends up.

Your Local Guardian states that Crystal Palace could be potential competitions for Manuel Pellegrini’s side as they’re looking for a striker of proven quality.

OPINION

While Your Local Guardian may not be the world’s most reliable source, Sturridge potentially being on the move in January isn’t unbelievable by any means. The forward’s current £120,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac) contract is due to expire in the summer and Liverpool haven’t exactly tabled a new deal as far as it’s known. This means that as it stands January is realistic the last opportunity for them to get Sturridge off their books and receive a fee in return for his services. The 29-year-old may  get thrown a few opportunities to feature for the Reds by Jurgen Klopp this season but you wonder if the right offer emerges whether he’d be let go. Sturridge has scored four goals in 18 outings this season which isn’t awful considering he usually comes off the bench, but has struggled in certain games this season. For instance during Liverpool’s 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Monday, he bordered on being invisible in the match before being subbed and didn’t exactly look overly motivated to stake a claim for the first-team.
