A section of West Ham United fans have reacted to the news that Michail Antonio has been included in the starting XI to face Tottenham on Wednesday.
The Hammers welcome Spurs to the London Stadium in a Carabao Cup clash and Manuel Pellegrini has opted to give the 28-year-old a start, along with the likes of Grady Diangana and Angelo Ogbonna, as confirmed by the club’s official Twitter account.
Many Irons’ fans were fuming that Antonio was set to set the fixture against the Lilywhites, with some comments including “Antonio? No” and “I’d rather play with 10 men”.
COMMENTARY
It is not wonder that some of the fans are fuming that Antonio is starting for West Ham. Whenever he is on the pitch, he does not contribute very much and makes next to no impact on the game. However, this is the Carabao Cup, where Manuel Pellegrini is going to give other players a run out who don not usually feature. Hopefully Antonio can prove the doubters wrong and put out a good performance tonight, as it may put him in good stead to start against Burnley this weekend. Nevertheless, it is hard not to agree with the fans here though – if he has not made an impact before, he certainly is not going to against Spurs. He may prove people wrong though – but he will have to at least score to win back the hearts of many West Ham fans.
Forever West HamĀ has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Yes, what's yr problem look at his display against Leicester! He was superb, showed up Chicarito for his inability to play as a no.9 on his own. Antonio gives his all when he plays for us, his pace is fantastic! Would u play as the left winger then?
