Sky Sports pundit Tony Gale has named West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianksi as the one player who has surprised him the most this season.

The 6ft 3in [Transfermarkt] keeper was signed from Swansea in the summer transfer window, and although Gale admitted that he was a better goalkeeper than what the club already had, he says he has been thoroughly impressed by him this season.

Gale also added that he was surprised by how well the Polish international is performing in between the sticks since he arrived at the London Stadium.

“I was quite surprised,” Gale told talkSPORT radio on Wednesday October 31 (08:09am).

“I was thinking is he a lot better than what we’ve already got when we signed him, but I’ve been really impressed. I think he’s done really well.”

OPINION

It comes as no surprise that Gale has heaped praise on Fabianski in this way – overall, he has been West Ham’s best player by a mile. He never really has a game where he is not up to standard, and Manuel Pellegrini is no doubt counting his lucky stars that he has a keeper with his experience on board. Out of all of the signings the Hammers made in the summer, the 33-year-old is by far the one who has been the most consistent. Many have been raving about the likes of Andriy Yarmolenko, but many seem to forget how well Fabianski has been playing – when have we ever seen him make a major mistake during his time at West Ham? The Irons are very fortunate to have him – and it is hard not to agree with Gale when he says Fabianski is the player who has surprised him the most.
