A section of West Ham United fans have reacted to the half-time display of defender Angelo Ogbonna in the clash against Tottenham on Wednesday.
Tottenham went 1-0 up in the first half thanks to a goal from Heung Min-Son – a goal which came after Ogbonna failed to clear the ball twice before the South Korean international netted.
Many West Ham fans were fuming with the half time display of the 30-year-old, with some comments including “that’s why Ogbonna never starts” and “when will the nightmare end”.
COMMENTARY
It is no surprise that some of the West Ham fans are fuming at the performance of Ogbonna in this clash – his failed clearances led to the goal after all. Many are questioning why the defender was even starting in the first place, with some fans calling for him to be substitued as soon as possible. This may well be the case, because as one supporter has pointed out, he is a liability on the pitch. This first half display is the reason why Manuel Pellegrini does not start him in the first team on a regular basis – and after this performance, he definitely is not going to be a Premier League starter any time soon. Tottenham’s goal could have been easily prevented – and it is hard not to agree with the supporters in their slating of Ogbonna at half time. He must do better – if he is given the chance that is.
