Michael Owen shared that West Ham achieved an excellent result against Everton before predicting them to lose to Chelsea on Sunday.

The former Liverpool forward stated that he thought while the Hammers’ 3-1 victory over the Toffees was excellent for them, Marco Silva’s side were there for the taking at Goodison Park.

Owen then predicted the Blues to win their London derby with Manuel Pellegrini side’s but expected it to be a cracking game none the less.

“I watched West Ham’s win at Goodison at the weekend and thought it was an excellent result for the Hammers although it is fair to say that on the day Everton were there for the taking,” wrote the retired attacker for BetVictor.

“West Ham have lost more PL London derbies than any other club and I feel Maurizio Sarri will become just the third PL manager to win his first six games in the competition after Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola.

“That said I expect the hosts to give them a real game in what should be a cracking derby.”

OPINION

Owen is a little bit of a Debbie Downer with his assessment of the Hammers’ upcoming encounter with the Blues. The pundit seems to dismiss the win against the Toffees by stating that Silva’s side were there for the taking and he is wrong to do so. The Hammers still had to work hard and gel as a team, which they previously hadn’t, in order to get the result even if Silva’s side were not firing on all cylinders. While it’s no surprise that Owen predicted Chelsea to overcome the Hammers, as they have won all their games so far, at least he thinks it’ll be a cracking game. The retired Premier League star believes the Hammers will push the Blues all the way but believes their record in London derbies speaks for itself. Though there would be no better time for the Hammers to improve their record as a win against Chelsea will really kick-start the Pellegrini era as there’s no way the team wouldn’t be able to build on that result.
