Having signed seven players this summer for a total outlay in excess of £80million, many would think that West Ham’s spending this window is over.

New boss Manuel Pellegrini has strengthened his squad in all areas, with a goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders and an attacker brought in.

However, the Hammers are still continuing to be linked with moves for several different players, with the club seemingly on the hunt for another centre-back.

As reported by beIN Sports Turkey, West Ham have submitted a £19.6million bid for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida, who starred at the World Cup for finalists Croatia.

However, the club have also been linked with a move for free agent Diego Reyes, and this is a move which makes much more sense for the Irons at this time.

As reported by Sky Sports, the club are interested in a move for the giant 25-year-old Mexico international, who has just left Porto after spending five years with the Primeira Liga champions.

Reyes is a 55-cap international defender with great pedigree, having spent time at Porto, Espanyol and Real Sociedad,  and at just 25 years old he has even more room to grow.

His 6ft 3in frame [Transfermarkt] puts him in good stead to compete immediately in the Premier League, with Reyes’ height allowing him to compete with strength in the air.

Vida on the other hand is already 29, and there were times during the World Cup where he was left dangerously exposed for a lack of pace.

There is little sense in shelling out another £20million or so on a player like that, when Reyes is available for nothing.

Fenerbahce are reported to have already made an offer to the Mexican enforcer, and West Ham must now go all in to hijack that deal taking place.

Reyes would surely jump at the chance to compete in the Premier League, and the Hammers should have no problem putting together an attractive financial package to lure the 25-year-old to the London Stadium.

The Irons must now drop their bid for Vida and instead blow their rivals out the water for Reyes, who would be the perfect signing to round off a perfect summer for the club.
