West Ham United have submitted a £19.6million bid for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida, according to beIN Sports Turkey

The Turkish broadcaster report that the Hammers have submitted a formal offer for the 29-year-old enforcer, who starred for Croatia at the World Cup as they lost out in the final to France.

BeIN Sports claim however that Besiktas president Fikret Orman is attempting to negotiate on price with the Irons, who have been spending heavily so far this summer.

OPINION

West Ham have been one of the Premier League’s most ambitious and active teams in the summer window so far, and if this bid for Vida has indeed been submitted, that shows no sign of letting up. Manuel Pellegrini has wasted no time in identifying the areas in need of reinforcement, and subsequently moving for players he believes will strengthen his squad. Looking at those new arrivals from an objective perspective, the Chilean looks to be doing a stellar job so far. The Hammers look to be stronger in defence, midfield and attack with the signings he has made, and Vida would be another player who would add something to this squad. The 29-year-old impressed for Croatia this summer as they fell at the last hurdle against France, and a summer move looks likely for the enforcer. West Ham would do well to sign him, and the club have put themselves in a brilliant position to do so with this reported bid.
