West Ham face a major task ahead of them in the final months of the Premier League season, as the Hammers hover just three points above the relegation zone with just eight matches remaining.

David Moyes’ side have lost three consecutive matches to Liverpool, Swansea City and Burnley, giving them a crucial trio of fixtures after March’s international break against Southampton, Chelsea and Stoke City- two of which are relegation rivals.

A lack of consistency in defence has proven to be a real issue this season and the Hammers identified Swansea’s Alfie Mawson as a prime target in January, though the Welsh side refused to approve a sale to a relegation rival.

West Ham are understood to remain interested in Mawson, who is poised for an international debut with England this month, and The Times reports that the young defender’s form has led Tottenham Hotspur to join the hunt.

A number of other Premier League sides are also attributed with an interest in Mawson, although he could command a high price as Swansea were reported to be chasing £25m in January.
