West Ham face a fight to retain their Premier League status and the Hammers are set for a crucial January transfer window under the tenure of David Moyes.

The transfer policy of the East London side has been scrutinised following recent windows, with a number of high-profile signings failing to make the grade, and the Hammers are keen to avoid similar issues in 2018.

West Ham were high spenders in the summer, with their deals including a club-record fee for the signature of Marko Arnautovic, but the board are ready to hand Moyes money to spend in January and have promised an active window.

Quoted by The Evening Standard, chairman David Sullivan has promised ‘two or three’ new signings in the New Year.

“David is still weighing up the areas we are short in but you can be rest assured two or three players will be brought in to improve the team. Before then, we have players available again after injury, with more set to return soon, too, so there is competition for places.”

Signings are likely to include a new striker and a powerful midfielder, with Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho being linked once again after a summer deal collapsed.
