West Ham have struggled for stability this season and they may well look towards their youth ranks to provide inspiration, as the Hammers’ U23 side has been impressing behind the scenes this season.

20-year-old starlet Toni Martinez has been the name on everybody’s lips with his tremendous form in front of goal but midfielder Martin Samuelson has also impressed, scoring in the recent 3-1 victory over Bristol City, and is also banging on the door of the first-team.

The Norwegian ace has spent time on loan in recent years, enduring mixed spells, but has remained at the London Stadium this season and caught the eye with his opening goal- a finish that he told the club’s official website he regularly scores in training.

“I’ve scored those goals 10 thousand times in training, worked on those types of shots, reacting quickly. So when I saw the ball I was confident I was going to score.”

Samuelson then went on to praise fellow midfielders Nathan Holland and summer signing Sead Haksabanovic, the latter of whom he’s built a tremendous partnership with so far this season.

“We enjoy playing with each other. We understand each other’s movements and I’m very happy to be playing with them.”
