The Daily Telegraph is reporting that West Ham are considering a move for Porto striker Laurent Depoitre if attempts to sign other forwards fail during the January transfer window.

The Telegraph’s Matt Law suggests that West Ham have four main loan targets in the striking department, all of which could prove extremely difficult to land. As well as Chelsea’s Michy Batchauyi, the Hammers are still looking at Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

If those moves are not viable, they may turn their attentions to Manchester United pair Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford; both of which they would employ in their favoured positions through the middle.

The chances of landing either are said to be “extremely slim” however which leaves Sassuolo’s Gregoire Defrel and Depoitre. We reported yesterday that the Hammers are leading the race for Defrel but the Depoitre’s name is a new one.

The Belgian striker signed for Porto only last summer and has scored two goals in ten appearances so far. The 28 year old has played almost his entire career in the Belgian leagues with a strike ratio of one goal in three matches. At Gent last season he scored 14 goals in the Jupiler Pro League but whether he would be an improvement on Simone Zaza is up for debate.
