There’s certainly room for another centre half in West Ham’s squad at the moment.

So far this season the Hammers’ defence has not been at the level we came accustomed to them being at last year.

In 2015/16 they were a very organised outfit at the back and very few teams got the better of them, reflected by their seventh place in the overall table.

This season, though, things have not been as good and whilst injuries are partly to blame, the east London side’s back line could do with some strengthening.

Croatian boss Slaven Bilic has had to chop and change his defence and has also switched between a back three and a back four to varying degrees of success with people like Cheikhou Kouyate having to fill in at times.

That cannot be a permanent solution, though, and so the club should be looking at getting another central defender into the club in January.
