Stijn Vandenbroucke, Head of Medical and Sports Science has told West Ham’s official club website in his latest regular update on the players’ fitness that Andy Carroll still has some work to do before being fully ready for matches.
The former Newcastle United and Liverpool striker has suffered with injuries for some time and sustained a knee injury as the Hammers were knocked out of the Europa League play-offs in August. Since, he has not featured once for the club and Vandenbroucke says there is still some time to go before he starts for Slaven Bilic’s men:
“And finally, Andy Carroll is continuing his rehab following the knee injury he suffered in the UEFA Europa League tie in Romania in August. He is working as hard as he can on the pitch and in the gym, making progress.  Andy has a few bridges to cross before he can join in first team training.”
The Hammers have also got fellow attackers Andre Ayew and Diafra Sakho sidelined though the latter is expected to return imminently whilst Enner Valencia is currently out on loan.
Simone Zaza has been the main striker for the club so far this season but has yet to find the net with the game against Sunderland his next chance to do so.
