West Ham United goalkeeper Adrian has hit back at claims by Watford’s Troy Deeney that the London side were disrespectful against the Hornets.

The Vicarage Road side’s captain claimed that shows of individual skill by Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini embarrassed the visitors and acted as a major motivation for Walter Mazzarri’s men to fight back from 2-0 down to win 4-2 on Saturday.

West Ham were in the ascendancy courtesy of a Michail Antonio double, with the second a delight for the London Stadium faithful.

However, Watford rallied to score four unanswered goals and leave the Hammers with a modest three points from their first four games in the Premier League this season.

Adrian has stated that West Ham’s creative talents such as Payet and Lanzini are gifted players and were not trying to degrade the side’s opposition by using tricks to try to unlock the Watford defence.

“If you can use skill on the pitch and it gives an advantage then it is great for us,” the Spaniard told Sky Sports.

“I don’t know if the Watford players were angry but Lanzini tried his [rabona] because he has more confidence in his other foot. Nobody can say this is disrespect.”
