Former West Ham United midfielder Kevin Nolan has stated that the east London club’s homegrown players have been unfairly overlooked by England in recent seasons.

The former Hammer was himself being touted by many of the London club’s faithful for international recognition during his time at the club, but was largely ignored by various Three Lions coaches.

With a strong English core to West Ham’s current group, the supporters have been calling for a number of the players to be called up into the national fold.

Aaron Cresswell in particular is seemingly deserving of consideration, while Andy Carroll has been in and out of the England group.

While Michail Antonio was given a chance to join the contingent for the recent games, there is still a misrepresentation in Nolan’s eyes.

He states the appointment of Sam Allardyce will hopefully see Creswell, Carroll, Antonio and Mark Noble given a chance to represent their country.

“I don’t want to say anything bad about the Football Association but we did really well for a number of years with a number of English players and only Scott Parker and Matthew Upson got a call-up to the England squad,” he told the club’s official website.

“A lot more of our English players should have been called up because they performed really well. We have now got Andy Carroll, Mark Noble, Aaron Cresswell and obviously Michail Antonio received his first call-up last week.

“It is exciting times for those boys because if Nobes has another season like the one he produced last year and they will definitely have a chance of also breaking into the set-up under Sam.”

Antonio’s goalscoring exploits this season to date is sure to have him in the reckoning going forward, while Noble is an essential player for the London club.
