Pundit Jamie Redknapp has stated that West Ham’s players were too occupied with showing their individual skill against Watford on Saturday and should instead have focussed on killing the game off.

The Hammers were 2-0 up against the Hornets and cruising at the London Stadium, before Walter Mazzarri’s men rallied and scored four unanswered goals to win 4-2.

Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini both performed scintillating individual tricks in the first half of the clash when their side was coasting, much to the delight of the home faithful.

However, Watford skipper Troy Deeney later confessed that the West Ham stars’ showboating acted as a motivation to spark the visitors’ comeback.

Redknapp has spoken out on the issue and stated that he was speaking with famous West Ham fan James Corden, who was not a fan of the individual skills on show.

The former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder has stated that the Hammers perhaps got ahead of themselves and showed have focussed on solidifying the result rather than showcasing their talents.

“I was in LA filming A League Of Their Own this weekend and was with James Corden while West Ham were playing Watford,” Redknapp told The Daily Mail.

“When I showed him Dimitri Payet’s incredible rabona cross for Michail Antonio’s goal that put West Ham 2-0 up, Corden — a Hammers fan — said: ‘I don’t want rabonas, I want three points!

“As much as we all love to see the Harlem Globetrotters, West Ham took their eye off the ball with all their showboating and made some sloppy defensive errors as Watford completed an astonishing comeback to win 4-2.”
