West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic has stated that keeping star playmaker Dimitri Payet at the club was key for the east London outfit this summer.

The French playmaker starred in his first season in English football last term, scoring goals and laying them on in a remarkable campaign for the attacking midfielder.

Payet went on to star for France at Euro 2016 after his performances for the Hammers and as such he has been linked with moves to some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The former Marseille man was shortlisted for the PFA Player of the Year award last season and has been touted as a player a host of English and continental sides were interested in.

Despite this, Payet continues to be on the books of the London Stadium outfit and Bilic has stressed just how important the French schemer is to his team’s chances.

“It is key for us if he can produce his best form again,” the Croatian told the club’s official website.

“He has the qualities that the best players have and can help change a game. They are influencing their teammates and opponents.

“He makes the team play better and everyone around him is benefiting. The team recognised that last season.”

Payet has been introduced to club action slowly this term following his exertions at Euro 2016.
