West Ham United have announced on their official website that Darren Randolph has put pen to paper on a new contract extension that will keep him with the London club for another four years.

The Republic of Ireland international was his nation’s first choice custodian at the Euro 2016 tournament in France this summer and put in a number of confident performances for Martin O’Neill’s men.

The 29-year-old moved to West Ham from Birmingham City last year but has mostly been used as a deputy to Adrian in Slaven Bilic’s side.

Despite the fact that regular first-team football is not assured for Randolph next term, the goalkeeper has admitted he is delighted to extend his stay at the London Stadium.

“I’ve had a good first season at West Ham and this is another positive thing to happen to me at the end of a good first season and a good summer with Ireland,” he said.

“It has gone better than I could have ever expected, playing as many games as I did and then starting for Ireland in the play-off and at Euro 2016.

“Signing a new contract means I want to stay here for a long time and be part of what is going on with the club, moving into a new stadium and a new training ground – it’s all very positive and exciting.”

Randolph’s new contract assures that Bilic has a quality, international back-up goalkeeper in his squad and removes one transfer headache, as finding a replacement should the 29-year-old want to leave could well have been difficult.
