West Ham United face new competition in their bid to sign Palermo left-back Achraf Lazaar, with Mercato 365 stating that Marseille have entered the race to land the defender.

The Hammers have seen their efforts to find a replacement for the injured Aaron Cresswell fail so far this summer.

Inter left-back Davide Santon failed a medical at the east London club, while Norwich have turned down an approach from Slaven Bilic’s men for Sweden international Martin Olsson.

While a host of other names are being mentioned as targets, a report in Italy this week had reported that West Ham were close to signing Lazaar after having a bid accepted.

However, the Morocco international, who has impressed over the last 12 months at the modest Sicilian club, is said to be in demand and have a host of European clubs chasing him.

Marseille are the latest to be added to that list and as such West Ham will need to move quickly if they are to land Lazaar.
