West Ham United have confirmed on their official website that young defender Reece Burke has joined Wigan Athletic on a season-long loan deal.
The 19-year-old is one of the rising stars of the Hammers youth academy and is being tipped to have a bright future in the game and a role in the West Ham first team.
Burke is a childhood supporter of the London club and recently signed a four-year contract extension with Slaven Bilic’s men.
However, first-team football was expected to be in short supply if he stayed with the Premier League side and as such the teenager has joined the Latics for a chance to play on a weekly basis.
The Championship side have just been promoted back to the second tier of English football and will surely slot Burke straight into their starting XI.
The centre-half impressed on a loan stint at Bradford last term and will hope that moving to the DW Stadium will be the next step in his development.
