Shields Gazzette journalist Miles Starforth has stated on social media that Newcastle United defender Daryl Janmaat is set to join West Ham United.

The Hammers have had issues at right-back, with Slaven Bilic using winger Michail Anotnio as a makeshift option for the last six months.

However, with the former Nottingham Forest man giving away a penalty against Chelsea, he was restored to his usual attacking berth against Bournemouth.

This leaves Sam Byram as West Ham’s only real option at right-back and Janmaat could well be a shrewd acquisition this summer.

The Netherlands international was part of the Newcastle side that was relegated from the Premier League last season and could be replaced at St James’ Park by Tottenham Hotspur’s DeAndre Yedlin, Starforth claims.

Janmaat would offer plenty of Premier League and international experience if he was brought to the London Stadium, with a deal believed to be close to bolster Bilic’s choices in the problem position.
