Swansea City are closing in on the signing of West Ham United forward Enner Valencia but face competition from Italian side Lazio, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Ecuador international has not displayed his best form since moving to London and has been blighted by injury and an inability to play regularly.

With the Hammers in the market for a new high-profile attacker, Valencia is believed to be surplus to requirements and will be sold along with fellow forward Diafra Sakho.

The South American caught the eye in the 2014 World Cup as Ecuador overachieved and is clearly someone who has the potential to make it in English football.

Swansea appear convinced that Valencia is the man to lead their line, after the Welsh club parted company with strikers Eder and Alberto Paloschi.

The Clarets may well postpone Valencia’s exit from the club until a replacement is found, but it appears that the South American’s future is elsewhere.
