Ogbonna made his first appearance of the tournament against the Republic of Ireland in the 1-0 loss, and wasn’t quite his usual self.

It’s difficult to fit straight into a team and perform, especially in an unusual position like Ogbonna was played in against Ireland. He found himself in a back 3, playing in a LCB role and didn’t quite play like we have seen him in recent months.

Some huge blocks and tackles stopped a spirited Ireland attack for 85 minutes, and Ogbonna couldn’t do much about Hoolahan’s fantastic cross for Brady’s goal.

The real issue with Ogbonna’s display was his constant wrestling in the box, something that us West Ham fans have seen for a lot of the season and have been frustrated by. The Italian wasn’t punished for it somehow, but he is one of the worst culprits for this and he will need to cut it out for next season or we could suffer for it.
