West Ham’s summer search for a big name striker could soon be over, according to The Express.

Marseille need to find £20 million by 5th July or they will be facing the prospect of a transfer ban. With none of their other players fetching quite as much as Batshuayi is currently worth, then the Belgian could be on his way to The Olympic Stadium sooner rather than later.

French Magazine Le Parisien have claimed that the club are in serious financial debt, and with West Ham throwing money at strikers left right and centre at the moment, it seems that it will be hard for them to turn down a bid in excess of £25 million.

This could work in West Ham’s favour, as Marseille have been holding out for more money for Michy Batshuayi, but if they need the money then Dave Sullivan could work his magic and get the striker for less than originally thought.

Tottenham reportedly backed out of signing Batshuayi, and the fact that Slaven Bilic is now back at West Ham preparing for next season wanting to get some much needed reinforcements in attack, a West Ham bid would put us in pole position to sign the striker. Hopefully for cheaper than the £35 million that Marseille were originally requiring.

According the the clubs Insider, a bid has been lodged believed to be around £28.5 million plus add ons. This would outprice Juventus, who are interested, and Batshuayi’s preference may not be as important to Marseille as the money that they clearly need.

The main issue for West Ham fans is that if the player would prefer Champions League football and lacks desire to play for the club, do we want to pay £30 million to be a stepping stone in his career?

We want players who want to play for the club, no matter how much talent they have.
