West Ham United have announced on their official website that experienced defender Joey O’Brien will leave the club this summer.

The Hammers have unveiled a long list of players that are on their way towards the exit door, with the veteran Irish defender a prominent name included.

O’Brien’s contract with the London club has expired and with an ambitious transfer strategy in place before a move to the Olympic Stadium, West Ham have opted not to offer him a new deal.

The 30-year-old move to the Hammers in 2011 and made over 90 Premier League appearances in five years, scoring three goals in the process.

However, the Republic of Ireland international struggled for fitness in 2015-16 and did not appear for Slaven Bilic’s men in the campaign just finished.

O’Brien has previously been linked with a reunion with former West Ham manager Sam Allardyce at Sunderland, which could well now happen.
